U.S. homebuyers trimmed their down payments in December 2025, with the typical amount falling by 1.5 percent year over year, to $64,000, marking the first annual decline in five months, according to a Feb. 16 report from Redfin.
While the median home sales price saw a slight uptick in December to $427,742, down payments on homes declined as a percentage of the sale price from 16.7 percent in December 2024 to 15.2 percent.
