TAMPA, Fla.—June 1 marked the start of yet another hurricane season for the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of America.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a lower-than-average number of named storms between now and Nov. 30 thanks to the effects of El Niño. This is a recurring weather event known to lower the jet stream over the southeastern United States and create an environment in the Gulf and Atlantic that is less friendly to hurricane development.
