Unconfirmed reports that Chinese tech giant ByteDance had dissolved its Wuhan research and development center have spread rapidly online in recent days, drawing attention to mounting pressures facing China’s once-booming tech sector.

The company moved quickly to deny the claims, stating on March 14 that only about 50 employees had been relocated due to business adjustments.
