Two Air Canada employees have been arrested as part of an RCMP investigation into cocaine and cannabis trafficking through Montreal–Trudeau International Airport.

The investigation was launched in May after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) intercepted 62.5 kilograms of cocaine that was concealed in backpacks on a flight from Punta Cana, the Eastern Region RCMP said in an Aug. 26 press release. Officers also confiscated 56 kilograms of cannabis over the course of the probe.

Search warrants were executed at two homes and a vehicle in the Greater Montreal area during the early morning hours of Aug. 26, police said. A search was also conducted at the employees’ work base in Dorval with Air Canada’s cooperation.

The suspects taken into custody hold “various positions related to ground operations” at Air Canada, the RCMP said.

“They are alleged to have participated in a conspiracy to bring and move luggage through secure areas of the airport to facilitate the importation of cocaine and the exportation of cannabis,” police said.

The Mounties have not released the names or ages of the accused, but said the two individuals will be questioned and released pending further proceedings.

“The investigation is ongoing,” police said. “Analysis of the evidence collected could lead to additional arrests and the laying of charges.”

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact police.

Cocaine Seized at Border

The arrests come just a day after the CBSA announced that its officers seized approximately 385 kilograms of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry in southwestern Ontario earlier this month.

Authorities discovered the drugs on Aug. 13 after a commercial truck entering Canada was sent for a secondary inspection at the port of entry in Point Edward, Ont., the CBSA said in an Aug. 25 press release.

The truck driver was arrested by border officers and the investigation was handed over to the RCMP.

RCMP Central Region Superintendent Dale Foote said the arrest was the result of a “strong partnership” between the RCMP and CBSA in Ontario.

The suspect has been charged with importing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

“This continues to send a strong message that crime will not be tolerated, and to show the public and others, that cross border criminality is a top priority for our agencies,” Foote said.

The CBSA seized over 1,547 kilograms of cocaine and over 17,822 kilograms of illegal cannabis in the first quarter of this year.

The agency carried out a total of 31,688 seizures of illegal drugs last year, according to 2025 year-end statistics, confiscating 4,725 kilograms of cocaine and 46,608 kilograms of illegal cannabis.
