U.S. Republican senators and representatives say Canada may face negative repercussions for unilaterally recognizing Palestinian statehood.

“Proceeding with recognition will put your country at odds with long-standing U.S. policy and interests and may invite punitive measures in response,” the lawmakers wrote in a Sept. 19 letter addressed to Prime Minister Mark Carney ahead of his participation in the U.N. General Assembly in New York City this week.
