A Nova Scotia man has deliberately gone against provincial restrictions over entering wooded areas so that he can challenge the province’s restrictions in court.

The province announced restrictions on activities in forested areas on Aug. 5, saying that hot and dry conditions “greatly increased” the risk of wildfires. The restrictions include a ban on hiking, camping, fishing, or using vehicles in the woods, including a ban on using trail systems. The province said the restrictions would be in place on provincial Crown and private land until Oct. 15 or until conditions improved enough for them to be lifted.
