An engineering university in Montreal has removed beef from its cafeteria menus in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.

Polytechnique Montréal, which is affiliated with the University of Montreal, says its campus food services operator Association des services alimentaires de Polytechnique (ASAP) took beef off the menu of its six food counters in September 2025, offering more “lower carbon footprint” options. The service feeds about 10,000 students each day.
