The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits has remained near historically low levels, signaling a stable U.S. labor market.
Initial jobless claims fell by 11,000 to 207,000 for the week ending on April 11, according to new Department of Labor data released on April 16. This is down from the previous week’s 218,000, which was the highest reading since early February during the storm-driven fallout. Economists had penciled in a level of 215,000.
