BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Tyndall Air Force Base is expanding and utilizing cutting-edge technology.
Tuesday vendors displayed new advancements at the Tyndall Tech Expo.
“There are different vendors here today that utilize robotics in many different ways,” said Wesley Parker, Commander of the 325th Communication Squadron. “For example, instead of a bomb dog, it’s a bomb robotic dog. There’s also the aspect of using robotics to counter drones as well. So essentially a drone versus drone, but they use robotics to either disable or capture the drones.”
The event bridged together government advancements and industry partners.
“Key technology that would help us is anything in the realm of counter drones,” said Parker. “Drones flying on unauthorized drones flying on Tyndall Air Force Base create a safety issue and a flight safety issue.”
Base officials said they are looking for new technology to help create safer airspace.
“To prevent a flight safety issue or a mishap, we’re looking for technologies that would allow us to counter incursions into our airspace by drones,” said Parker.
Tyndall’s natural disaster recovery division plays a vital role as the base continues to rebuild following Hurricane Michael in 2018.
The base of the future is set to be complete in 2027.
