The Buzz | These 5 Fox Valley businesses opened or had big changes in June

June was a busy month for business updates, and while we didn’t see any closures, we did see several new businesses open, from bakeries to pet grooming salons, in the Fox Cities. We also saw a handful of small business and chain retail closures throughout the region.

The Buzz put together a list of openings and closures that happened last month. We also included a list of businesses to watch out for that plan to open in the Fox Valley.

3 new businesses opened in Appleton

Marvol, 126 E. Pacific St. in Appleton, opened on June 13. The neighborhood restaurant features a dynamic small plates menu and craft cocktails.

The Pastry Lover, 405 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton, opened on June 14. The bakery offers Chilean and North American baked goods.

Bark Avenue, 432 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton, had its soft opening in early June. The salon offers full service grooms and other services for dogs and cats.

This Appleton consignment store relocated

Whimsical Charm, 1700 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton, relocated early June into the former Furniture Phases business. The consignment store offers goods from local artists, estates and other items ranging from handmade, gently used or new.

This Appleton business made changes to its inventory

Fox Cities Quilt Co., 1400 W. College Ave. in Appleton, unveiled a new yarn department on June 2. The department features beginner-friendly yarn options, supplies and tools to learn knit and crochet.

What’s to come? Keep an eye out for these 11 businesses

Vault 202 Brewery & Taproom, 202 W. College Ave. in Appleton, will open this summer. The space will feature a main bar with a gas-fired pizza oven, a private event space and a spiral staircase that leads downstairs to a bar and lounge inside an existing bank vault.

Culver’s, located on the southwestern corner of Martineau Road and Debruin Road in Combined Locks, will open sometime this summer.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers, 3600 W. College Ave. in Grand Chute, is set to open this summer in the former Kesslers Diamonds. The fast food chain is known for its chicken fingers but also offers sandwiches, shakes and more.

Uncle Mike’s Kringle Shoppe, W3178 Van Roy Road, Suite A, in Buchanan, is set to open sometime in late summer. The shop will be the first from the business to focus on kringle but will also offer ice cream, coffee and cookies.

Ope! Brewing Co., a brewery in West Allis, is expanding to 1932 W. College Ave. in Appleton, although no estimated opening date has been set. The brewery will offer signature craft beers, hard seltzers and hard ciders along with a vibrant outdoor space featuring live music, patio seating, volleyball, pickleball and corn hole.

Darboy Shell, will be built on the site of the former Darboy Club at N9695 Calumet County N in Harrison. The construction for the convenience store is expected to be completed in fall.

Wilmar Chocolate’s is opening a second location in Neenah and will be located at 220 W. Wisconsin Ave. The long-time chocolate shop is expected to open in the fall.

The Tardigrade’s Bookshelf, at 501 N. Richmond St. in Appleton, is planning to open this fall after renovations are complete. The semi-sober bar will function as a science-based bookstore and a place to socialize with drinks, book clubs and other events.

Union Star Cheese is opening its first retail location at 125 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Neenah. The store is expected to open before Labor Day and will offer Union Star’s wide variety of cheeses.

Nosh Kitchen & Tap is preparing to open at 5120 W. Michaels Drive in Appleton. The scratch kitchen is expected to be open in August.

Taco Bell is opening a new location in Kaukauna at 1800 Crooks Ave. The fast-food joint is expected to be open by fall.
