BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – When it comes to sports betting, it simply doesn’t get much bigger than the Super Bowl.

The NFL Championship Game featuring the Philadelphia Eagles (17-3) and Kansas City Chiefs (17-2) spells big bucks for gambling markets catering to those looking to go all-in on Sunday.

And with lawmakers still pushing to legalize online sports wagering, Mississippi Coast casinos are among those seeing dollar signs with an influx of business.

“It’s by far the biggest event we have,” said Scarlet Pearl Casino Sportsbook Manager Brad Carpenter.

Golden Nugget Biloxi VP and General Manager Chett Harrison concurs and says the pressure to profit from the Super Bowl is paramount.

“It’s by far one of the biggest games of the year,” Harrison told WLOX. “For us, there’s no going back because there’s no next weekend. It’s feast or famine. You either turn out OK or ‘Hey, wait til next year.’”

With the Big Game in the ‘Big Easy’ for a record-tying 11th time, there’s a better chance to cash in on the excitement.

“It’s really gonna pick up in the next couple of days,” Carpenter told WLOX. “Especially now that the Super Bowl is in New Orleans this year there’s even a lot more buzz about it.”

According to the American Gaming Association, an estimated $1.4 billion will be wagered on Super Bowl LIX (59) between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs – winner of the last two and three of the last five.

That’s a lot of coin.

But, betting is not the only revenue stream, says Harrison.

“The last count I had there’s only about 25,000 hotel rooms in New Orleans,” he explained. “So we hope we are going to see some spillover in terms of people coming from Philadelphia and the Kansas City fans.”

As for the best bet? Scarlet Pearl’s Brad Carpenter says it’s too early to tell.

“A little bit more money is trickling in on the Eagles so far,” he said. “But I expect it to even out closer to Sunday.”

The Chiefs are currently 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles.
