Environment Canada has issued yellow alerts for snow squalls in various parts of central and southern Ontario, as part of its new colour-coded weather alert system put into effect Nov. 26.
In the new system, yellow alerts indicate hazardous weather events that may lead to damage, disruption, or health impacts likely to be moderate, localized, or short-term. Meanwhile, orange alerts are for severe weather likely to cause significant impacts that can be major or widespread or may last a few days, and red alerts are for very dangerous and potentially life-threatening weather that will cause extreme impacts with the potential of being extensive and prolonged.
