Ontario Sets Date for Speed Cameras to Be Removed, Temporary Signs Installed

Ontario Premier Doug Ford speaks about roadway speed cameras at the Vaughan Joint Operations Centre in Vaughan, Ont., on Sept. 25, 2025. The Canadian Press/Jon Blacker

The government of Ontario’s proposed bill to prohibit municipal speed cameras was passed into law this week, and will come into effect in November.

The measures, part of the Building a More Competitive Economy Act that was introduced on Oct. 20, came after Premier Doug Ford criticized the speed enforcement measures as a “cash grab.” He said his government would support municipalities that add speed bumps and roundabouts as a traffic calming measure.
