BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – They say don’t get into business with a friend. So, instead, these two North Dakota women got into business next to each other.
It’s a tale of passion evolving into your latest one-stop sewing shop.
Sam Dobransky and Casey Norman are two longtime friends.
”Her ideas and my ideas really just mesh,” said Sam Dobransky, owner of Buttons and Binding.
They share the same passion.
”You can’t take shortcuts when it comes to sewing,” said Casey Norman, owner of Altered Ego Sewing.
They work toward the same goal.
”I get to be home more with my kids,” said Dobransky.
And now, they own very similar businesses.
”I met Casey about eight years ago through our husbands, and she knew how to sew. I knew how to sew. It was a hobby thing that kind of started everything. And then, it just kind of exploded from there,” said Dobransky.
The idea for Dobransky’s business, Buttons and Binding, came from watching Norman grow her business, Altered Ego.
”Seeing Casey grow her business by doing something she loves is so cool and is very inspiring,” said Dobransky.
But in this friendship, the inspiration works both ways.
”I’m teaching her the alteration end. She’s teaching me the quilting end. She helped me make a quilt for my son for his high school graduation. So, that was my first step into that world,” said Norman.
Dobransky does the hobby sewing while Norman does the alterations.
”When it’s done — especially long, tough projects — I am so excited and proud and happy that it’s done, and I get to see it, and I get to show it off. It’s a lot of emotion,” said Dobranksy.
And now, together, they’re able to provide the area with more than they ever could’ve imagined alone: a destination for all your sewing needs.
