The City of North Vancouver says a fraudulent letter has been circulated in its name indicating that private property rights in the area are at risk due to an August B.C. Supreme Court ruling that granted Aboriginal land title to an area in Richmond, B.C.

Justice Barbara Young’s Aug. 7 ruling granted aboriginal title to approximately seven-and-a-half square kilometers of land in Richmond, B.C., to the Cowichan Nation based on historical land residency, leading to notices sent by Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie earlier this month saying that 125 to 150 private landowners within the affected area may have legal uncertainty surrounding the “validity” of their property ownership.
