QUINCY (WGEM) – More development continues along Quincy’s busiest stretch of road.

City officials said the recent development along Broadway isn’t stopping anytime soon.

City Planner Jason Parrott said the new construction at the northwest corner of 30th and Broadway looks to be almost complete, but he said there’s no word of what commercial businesses will be going into the property yet.

Parrott said R.P. Lumber is now moving into the Shopko property at 33rd and Broadway.

He stated the full-service retail store will house a showroom and warehouse for building materials and tools.

“It’s an exciting opportunity again, we’re getting something into one of those big boxes,” said Parrott. “One of the things Quincy dealt with for several years was the fact some of the largest retail stores had closed and now we’re starting to get those filled again. You’ve got Target going into the former Kmart, you’ve got Dunham Sports going into the former Sears store and now you’ve got R.P. Lumber going into the former Shopko.”

Parrot said the space in front of Target could still be developed into a commercial space and the 54th and Broadway project is in the works to be rezoned for the new development.
