After a challenging budget season for Easton Area School District, a new chief financial officer will take on the district’s finances.
The school board approved the hiring of Jack Trent in November. According to his contract, Trent’s employment will begin on a mutually agreed-upon date before Jan. 1, 2025, and the contract will expire on June 30, 2029, unless extended or terminated.
Trent comes from Montgomery Township School District in New Jersey, where he was the business administrator.
“Over 30 years ago, I was welcomed to Easton Area School District by Mrs. Briggs in her first grade classroom,” Trent said. “So it feels like, coming back as the CFO, everything has kind of come full circle for me.”
Trent’s starting annual salary will be $180,000, the contract states. Beginning July 1, 2025, and each year after, his salary may increase by up to 3% based on satisfactory performance.
According to his contract, the district will cover the cost of graduate courses, professional development and continued education that Trent pursues, approved by the Board.
Trent will have membership fees for at least two professional associations covered by the district. The district encourages his involvement in professional development through these memberships.
Trent told the school board last month that he is honored and excited to begin working with the Easton Area School District, especially after growing up in the district.
“I’m excited to get to meet everybody personally, not just in an interview setting, get to work with the business staff, and put myself into a place where I can hopefully get a planning process in place to make sure that Easton is financially sound for the foreseeable future,” Trent said.
After leading the district through its 2024 budget season, Superintendent Tracy Piazza said she is especially glad to see the position filled.
“On behalf of the board, the executive team, but most importantly, on behalf of myself, I’m super excited for Jack joining our team,” Piazza said. “It’s been a few months coming, and we really look forward to welcoming you back to Easton.”
