The No. 4 most-wanted fugitive in Canada has been arrested in British Columbia in connection with the 2024 shooting death of a 22-year-old soccer player at a Winnipeg sports complex, police say.
Tresor Horimbere was arrested on July 30 in Langley, B.C., with the help of the RCMP’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Winnipeg police said in an Aug. 4 press release.
The 24-year-old suspect was returned to Winnipeg this week by officers with the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit, and he now faces a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of Mohamed Yusuf Abdullahi.
Horimbere has been included in Canada’s Top 25 most wanted list as part of the BOLO Program, which stands for “be on the lookout,” since October 2025. A reward of up to $100,000 was offered for information leading to his arrest.
Horimbere has been wanted by Winnipeg Police since Abdullahi was gunned down in the parking lot of the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex after playing in the sixth Canada African Cup of Nations tournament for Team Eritrea on July 13, 2024.
Officers found Abdullahi just before midnight suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Abdullahi was born in Somalia in 2002 and moved to Winnipeg with his family in 2014. A teammate who spoke during Abdullahi’s memorial service said he volunteered as a soccer coach for young children and had organized a soccer program for Somali children just prior to his death.
Investigators said the shooting was not believed to be random and could be related to criminal activity such as drugs or gangs. Police also said that the perpetrators were thought to be among the spectators at the soccer game.
Winnipeg Police Service investigators had already arrested and charged two suspects in that murder investigation.
Ibrahim Bangura was arrested on Jan. 20, 2025, and Norbert Kipala, then 27, was arrested the following month at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, where he was already in custody on an unrelated matter. Both were charged with first-degree murder.
Bangura, who was 26 at the time, had his charge stayed in May 2025 after prosecutors indicated that they found his involvement to be “different than that of the co-accused.”
Horimbere was wanted not only in connection with Abdullahi’s death but also for an outstanding 2023 warrant related to firearms near Hawkesbury, Ont., a small town east of Ottawa.
Police have not said if Horimbere was arrested because of a tip through the BOLO program or if the $100,000 reward would be issued.
