Newly introduced legislation from the Liberal government would change the Canada Elections Act to prevent overly long ballots, add new privacy protections for political fundraisers, and ban digital deepfakes of electoral actors.

Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon told reporters on March 26 that the “targeted priority amendments” in the Strong and Free Elections Act would “maintain the strength and resilience of Canada’s electoral system.”
