Liberal MP Asks Ottawa to Reconsider Updated In-Person Work Rules for Public Servants

Liberal MP Bruce Fanjoy is urging the federal government to rethink its new return-to-office rules that require public servants to work on-site at least four days a week.

Fanjoy said in a Feb. 9 statement that the updated requirements “will cost both the government and citizens more,” increase pollution, and make it harder for public servants to achieve a healthy work-life balance.

“I believe Canada is better served by a hybrid model that balances a mix of in-office and remote work,” he wrote.

“The right balance is flexible and depends on circumstances. Done well, a hybrid model reduces the cost of government and benefits workers and all Canadians.”

Treasury Board President Shafqat Ali commented briefly on the matter during a media scrum on Parliament Hill.
