GRAND BLANC, MI – Grand Blanc is looking to amend its zoning ordinance to allow tattoo shops and laundromats in the city’s downtown area.
The Grand Blanc City Council unanimously approved its first reading of an amendment that’d allow such businesses to operate within the city’s central business district during its Dec. 11 meeting, according to Grand Blanc City Manager Wendy Jean-Buhrer.
“We didn’t really have those uses defined in the ordinance or anywhere in our ordinances,” Jean-Buhrer said. “We needed to get that cleaned up.”
There’s currently one tattoo shop within the city, Scott Hampton Tattoos, located at 252 Perry Road, Suite 2.
The city was once approached by a developer looking to open a tattoo shop in the central business district, the city manager said, but the developer ultimately opted to open their business elsewhere.
“They have decided not to, but at that time, we realized that maybe we need to firm it up and look where the best fit is for that,” Jean-Buhrer said. “We wanted to make sure the next time around that did happen.”
There is also just one laundromat in the city, Pro Clean, located at 509 E. Grand Blanc Road.
“The laundromat has been here for a long time,” Jean-Buhrer said.
The council’s final vote on the proposed amendment will take place following its second reading of the ordinance during its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Grand Blanc City Hall, 203 E. Grand Blanc Road
If approved by the council during its next meeting, the amendment would take effect 20 days after its publication in a local newspaper.
Agendas for the council’s upcoming meeting and a packet containing the amendment are available at cityofgrandblancmi.gov.
