BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Have you made holiday weekend plans for the Fourth of July? If you are doing so out of town in one of those online rental home sites like Airbnb, do so with caution.
Airbnb is on the defense ahead of this holiday weekend, reintroducing its “anti-party technology”. This same technology was rolled out over the Memorial Day holiday weekend a little over a month ago. The short- and long-term rental online marketplace is cracking down on disruptive gatherings that can disturb the rest of the community.
The goal is to gather and have fun, without being disruptive or reckless inside someone else’s home.
Based on input results from the guests for one or two-night reservations, Airbnb receives information that can help it determine if the reservation should be blocked. For example, the type of booking, the duration of the stay, the distance to the listing from the booking guest’s primary location, and if the booking is last-minute. This defense helps promote responsible travel and helps hosts safeguard their spaces, while giving neighbors peace of mind.
Airbnb also has its “community disturbance policy”, which prohibits disruptive gatherings, open invites for large get-togethers, purposeful disturbances to surrounding community, and the advertising of parties at the short-term rental’s address.
This can also work in reverse, if you own a home or a dwelling that is listed on Airbnb and are worried about what you may come home to once the holiday weekend wraps up, Airbnb has a list of tips for rental owners before the holiday weekend takes place.
