Saskatoon police have charged a man following an investigation into eggs being thrown at a Saskatoon building and several vehicles associated with a faith-based organization.

The 31-year-old Dundurn man turned himself in to the Saskatoon Police Service Headquarters on Aug. 13, police said in the latest update, issued on Aug. 14. He was charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000.

“As a police service, we recognize the significance of incidents that target faith-based communities and the impact on their sense of safety and belonging,” Superintendent James Oliver said.

Police initially issued a news release about the incident on Aug. 5, saying that it was investigating an incident that occurred on Aug. 1 when a building and vehicles at a faith-based organization in the 700 block of McKinnon Avenue South were vandalized with eggs.

Police said surveillance video shows a man wearing a black ball cap and a black T-shirt with the word “boo” and a white ghost on it arriving at the building at around 11:30 a.m. with a carton of eggs. The man then threw eggs at sections of the building and multiple vehicles.

Police did not identify the organization in the news release, or provide an exact address of the building.

A map search of the area indicates that Congregation Agudas Israel, located at 715 McKinnon Avenue South, appears to be the only faith-based building in that block.

Shortly after midnight on Aug. 2, the synagogue commented on social media that eggs were thrown at the entrances, walls, and several windows of the building, as well as some of the congregants’ cars that were in the parking lot, while the congregation was inside for Shabbat service.

“It is difficult not to feel afraid after what we experienced this morning. Hatred rarely begins with extreme violence. It starts with vandalism and intimidation, then grows, especially when there is no action taken or no condemnation,” Rabbi Claudio Jodorkovsky wrote.

The rabbi called on congregants to reach out to municipal, provincial, and federal representatives to take action to protect the Jewish community.

The Epoch Times reached out to the synagogue for comment but did not immediately hear back.

The incident comes amid elevated levels of anti-Semitic hate crime in Canada. Statistics Canada reported 788 police-reported hate crimes targeting Jewish people in 2025, down 16 percent from 943 in 2024. Despite the decline, Jewish people remained the target of about 71 percent of all religion-motivated hate crimes reported by police in 2025.
